傣族，中国的少数民族之一，主要聚居在云南省。傣族人以竹楼作为居住的住所。竹楼近似方形，用数十根大竹子支撑，悬空铺楼板；房顶用茅草覆盖。竹楼分上下两层，楼上住人，楼下饲养牲畜，堆放杂物，也是舂米、织布的地方。

傣族男子一般上身穿无领对襟袖衫，下身穿长管裤，以白布或蓝布包头。傣族妇女一般都束发，穿管筒和短衫。管筒长到脚面，衣衫紧而短。下摆仅及腰际，袖子却又长又窄。

在每年傣历六月举行的泼水节是傣族盛大的节日，届时人们要大摆筵席，宴请亲朋好友，用互相泼水的方式表示祝贺。

傣族也是一个能歌善舞的民族。孔雀舞是傣族舞蹈中具民族特点的，表演时，舞者头戴宝塔形金冠，身背孔雀架子道具，模仿孔雀的各种姿态动作，形象生动，引人入胜。

The male of the Dai people usually wear collarless Chinese-style shirts, long trousers with white or blue headpieces. As their common characteristics, the female usually coil their hair on the of their heads, wear tight short-waist Chinese-style blouses with tight and long sleeves short, and straight skirts covering the instep.

The water-Sprinkling Festival heal every year in June according to the Dai calendar is an annual grand festival for the Dai people. When the time comes, people will give a big feast, entertaining their relatives and friends. They will also sprinkle water on each other as a symbol of auspiciousness.

The Dai people are good singers and dancers. The peacock Dance is typical and most popular of their folk dance. When performing the dance, the dancer will wear pagoda shape golden crown with mask, carry on the back a frame of peacock and imitate the peacock graceful motions. The performance is extremely vivid and attractive.
